About David A. Meyerson, M.D., J.D.

Dr. David A. Meyerson is a Senior Cardiologist at Johns Hopkins, and Director of Cardiology Consultative Services at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Baltimore, Maryland. A recipient of a Preventive Cardiology Academic Award from the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Meyerson has devoted substantial clinic and research efforts to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. He is past regional president and current national spokesperson for the American Heart Association, and has testified before Congress on public health issues. In his belief that, as a profession, those in medicine do not adequately communicate with the public, he has hosted a weekly live radio program called HealthTalk, which was sponsored by Johns Hopkins and heard in several states.

Dr. Meyerson became increasingly concerned about those without medical insurance, about the elderly often being deprived of compassionate and high quality medical care, and about the wide disparity in access to medical care among the varied races and socio-economic groups. These concerns and others led him to attend the University of Maryland School of Law evening session while continuing all of his patient care activities at Johns Hopkins during the day. He received his J.D. degree on May 19, 2006, 28 years after receiving his M.D. degree. He hopes to use his new legal tools, combined with his longstanding knowledge of the compassionate delivery of evidence-based medicine to work with those in Washington and elsewhere to guide the evolution of a workable, fair, effective and compassionate American health care system. He sits on several scientific committees for Johns Hopkins and additionally advises members of congress through their health care advisory committees as well. He was nominated to, and became part of Leadership Maryland in 1998. He was recently named to a four-year term on the GovernorпїЅs Council for the Prevention of Heart Disease and Stroke in Maryland, and was recently honored as the Distinguished Alumnus of the University of Hartford College of Engineering.

Dr. Meyerson graduated Alpha Omega Alpha (Phi Beta Kappa medical school equivalent) from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, N.Y., trained in Internal Medicine at Yale, and trained in Cardiology at Johns Hopkins.
