Kolleen Jamieson O'Meara - October 27, 1964 - July 20, 2008

Kolleen was called suddenly to her Savior's side Sunday morning, July 20, 2008. She was born on October 27, 1964 to Elmer & Jean Jamieson in Denver.  Her unexpected death was caused by a blood clot from a sprained left ankle that traveled to her lungs, a Pulmonary Embolism from Deep Vein Thrombosis.  She went to two doctors during the previous week and neither one took an Xray or did further testing on her red, swollen and painful ankle. Her family hopes that Kolleen's story raises awareness of blood clots resulting from injuries. Please visit our resource page on Deep Vein Thrombosis for more information.

Kolleen enjoyed sewing, reading, writing, doing crafts and crocheting.  She got her first horse and learned to ride and care for horses from the age of 11.  After graduating from Bear Creek High School in Lakewood, CO, she went on to Mesa State College and got her Bachelor’s degree from Colorado Christian University in one year. She graduated summa cum laude (3.9 grade point average and above) from Colorado Christian University and was awarded the Distinguished Achievement Award.  This award was only granted to students who "exhibited outstanding scholarship and leadership in their studies, community and careers". She earned her Masters in Public Relations and Communications from the University of Denver in 2.5 years while working full-time.  After graduation in 1996, she moved to Michigan.  As the Manager of Alumni Travel for the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, she coordinated travel for the Alumni Association as well as creating marketing brochures and catalogs for 50 plus trips a year.  It was in this position that she was able to do most of her traveling as the University’s hostess.

Her love of travel took her to over 20 countries around the world, including the Caribbean, France, Ireland, the Amazon, Argentina, Vietnam, Greece and the Baltic’s.

Kolleen married Thomas M. O'Meara Jr. at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida on February 14, 1999. She lived a quiet and active life with Tom, enjoying the open spaces and fresh air in Grass Lake, MI with their 2 horses, 3 dogs and 3 cats and many others over the last 11 years. She was caring towards everyone she knew and would always make people feel at ease.  She was an avid year-round sports fan and thoroughly enjoyed watching hockey, baseball & football especially college football. Tom took her to see her beloved Colorado Avalanche in May and the Rockies in June this year.

In addition to being survived by her husband and parents, Kolleen's memory is kept alive by her loving brother Michael, sister-in-law Shelly, nephew Cooper & niece Mackenzie of Highlands Ranch, CO, many uncles, aunts and cousins, as well as her friends in Michigan.
